In the rugged terrain near Capitol Reef National Park lies Dream Mountain Utah, where the daring team from Tiny House Giant Journey took on the challenge of building not one, but two shipping container homes. These aren't your average homes; they cleverly used three 40ft high cube containers to create the illusion of a sprawling nine-container abode. But don't be fooled by the myth that container homes are a cheap alternative to traditional builds. The team faced challenges like limited space, extensive cutting, and intricate welding work, proving that these projects are no walk in the park.
The first build, a college project turned dream home, showcased innovation and creativity. With a full-size kitchen, steel window frames, and shiplap siding, the interior exuded a blend of industrial charm and cozy comfort. The master bedroom featured a king-size adjustable bed and a unique 4ft nook created by welding container doors. Each room boasted its mini-split for personalized temperature control, ensuring maximum comfort in every corner. And let's not forget the outdoor space - a sprawling 1,000 sq ft deck complete with a fire pit, sauna, and breathtaking mountain views.
But the adventure didn't stop there. The team upped the ante with the 2.0 version of their container home, splitting the property into two 1,900 sq ft units. The living and dining areas were ingeniously constructed using steel framing and container cutouts, adding an industrial edge to the design. Inside, the spacious kitchen retained a raw container wall, maintaining that rugged charm. With six bedrooms, three on each side, and unique views from each room, the homes offered a perfect blend of communal gathering spaces and private retreats. The outdoor deck space, complete with a sauna and a container door for added character, provided the ideal setting to relax and soak in the natural beauty of Dream Mountain Utah.
